You can define own properties for products. We offer a lot of possibilities on this point. To define properties, please open the menu item Own Fields. Here you can create a new field group. How you name it doesn’t matter. But we recommend a unique naming, because it can get confusing for multiple field groups, should one have to be adjusted.

On the following page you can create the properties. By clicking the button + add field a new field with an input mask appears. The following fields definitely should be filled:

Name

Screen name of the properties (e.g. megapixel)

Field-Name

Unique name for the allocation in the data base. Please be aware, that this name only exists once. Just one word without blanks; only underscore and dash are allowed as special characters.

Field-Type

Here you determine, how the property will be defined. You can select between a variety of field-types – please consider, that not all field-types are eligible as display of a property. Here you have a list of fields, which are preformatted for the output as a property.

  • Text single-line
  • Text multi-line
  • Numeric
  • E-Mail
  • URL
  • WYSIWG-Editor
  • oEmbed
  • Image
  • File
  • Gallery
  • Selection menu
  • Yes/No
  • Post-object
  • Page-Link
  • Relation
  • Taxonomy
  • User
  • Date
  • Color

Many fields, like text single-line and URL only differ through the validation in the backend. If you, for example, use the field URL, a URL is expected. If there’s no URL, the property won’t be saved.

With this function, incorrect entries can already be intercepted in the backend, which makes the work easier for possible editors of your website.

Additional Fields

There are more fields to be filled, and according to the field type even more will appear. The above-mentioned are the most significant ones and should be enough for a basic setup.

After you have defined your properties, the most important step comes now: The allocation of the products.

With the field position, you define where, that is on which position, the fields in the backend (and therefore also in the frontend!) will be displayed.

The most important rule, which mustn’t be missing, is the one for the post-type. Always select product as value. After that you can select, on which position the properties should be displayed in the frontend. The value properties stands for the standard view on the product detail-page as well as the overview page (e.g. list-view). If do not set the rule view, the properties will be displayed on the product detail-page & overview page (e.g. list-view).

ATTENTION: While setting up these two rules, you have to click on AND on the right, and not on OR below!

Here you have an example-image:

Note: You can, for example, only display the properties for certain taxonomies. With this it’s possible to provide different fields for different product types (e.g. printer, headsets, smartphones) – just have a closer look at the rules. The possibilities are unlimited!
